Zernushka doll

Tyumen’s needlewomen have made “Zernushka” dolls for winners of European Ski Orienteering Championships and World Cup.

For many centuries, this Russian folk rag doll was essential part of ancient Slavs culture and life. Right to the middle of XX century it was considered to be traditional folk toy.

Rug doll is a unique and special kind of art. It keeps traditions and ceremonies which Russian people were accumulating for many centuries.

Rug doll was usually filled with buckwheat or wheat. The Slavs believed that if “Zernuska” doll was filled with corn to the top then the next year would be rich and happy.
